Jammu-Kashmir: Security forces eliminate 2 Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists in Awantipora encounter

Jammu and Kashmir Police informed that the security forces have currently cordoned off the entire area as the encounter is still going on.

Jammu and Kashmir security forces neutralised two terrorists of the terror outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in an encounter that broke out in the Pampore area of Awantipora on Friday.

Jammu and Kashmir Police informed that the security forces have currently cordoned off the entire area as the search is still going on.

The officials said, a joint team of Police, Army, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Krew and the search operation turned into an encounter after the ultras opened fire at the security forces who retaliated. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed.

“One of the two terrorists killed in Khrew, Awantipora was involved in the killing of a peon at a government school in Pastuna on July 23 this year. He has been identified as Musaib Mushtaq of Khrew," said Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir.

The forces are trying to establish the identity of the second terrorist, the Kashmir Zone Police said.

While speaking to ANI, J&K DGP Dilbag Singh said that this was 'a hit squad of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen responsible for civilian killings in South Kashmir'. He also revealed that one AK rifle & one pistol have been recovered. The operation is ongoing and more details are awaited.

A report on Republic stated that last month, a top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander was eliminated in an encounter. According to reports, the encounter took place in Jammu and Kashmir's Handwara which led to forces to eliminate Mehrazuddin Halwai, who was the oldest and top commander of the terrorist group.
