High drama was witnessed in Kolkata on Monday after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at the CBI office after two of her cabinet ministers and a legislator were rounded up by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Narada scam.

Trinamool Congress workers staged protests outside the Nizam Palace office of the CBI after the central agency arrested party leaders Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee and Madan Mitra, and former Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee in connection with the five-year-old case.

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar had recently given the go-ahead to the CBI to prosecute Hakim and other senior leaders of the TMC, including Mitra and Mukherjee.

While being escorted to the CBI office, Minister Firhad Hakim said, "We will get a clean chit. I believe in the judiciary. I am sure we will get a clean chit. It is good that the matter is going to court now. The judiciary will do justice."

Terming the CBI action as politically motivated, TMC spokesman Kunal Ghosh claimed, "The BJP is still not able to accept defeat in the polls after having made an all-out attempt to win... This is a reprehensible act. When the state is fighting the Covid situation, they are trying to create disturbances in such a manner."
