The petroleum companies increased the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder by Rs 75.

As a result of the latest hike, a 14.2-kilogram domestic cylinder now costs Rs 884.50 per cylinder, while a 19-kg commercial cylinder will now cost Rs 1,693 in Delhi.

In Mumbai, a non-subsidized LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 884.50, which was previously sold at Rs 859.50.

This is the third straight month of hike in prices of LPG cylinders. Between January 1 and September 1, the price of cooking gas cylinders has gone up by Rs 190 each. The government eliminated subsidies on LPG by raising rates every month. These monthly increases led to the elimination of subsidies by May 2020.

In the last seven years, the price of domestic cooking gas has more than doubled. The retail selling price of domestic gas was Rs 410.5 per 14.2-kg cylinder on March 1, 2014.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Wednesday hit out at the Modi government over the hike in price of domestic cooking gas cylinders.

In a tweet in Hindi, with the hashtag ‘India against BJP loot’, Gandhi stated, “The one who is forcing the public to sleep empty stomach is himself sleeping under the shadow of friends….but the country is uniting against the injustice.”
