The Karnataka government on Wednesday announced that investors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have expressed interest to set up a world class design district on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

IT/BT Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said an avant-garde ‘Design District’ will come up in Bengaluru on the lines of Dubai’s d3.

The proposed Bengaluru Design District will be set up with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, the minister told reporters after returning from his 4-day trip to the Dubai Expo.

“Karnataka is an ideal destination for investments and investors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) agree on this. As a result, Bengaluru will soon get a world-class Design District. This will be way ahead of the one in Dubai in terms of quality,” Narayan said.

GCC is a group of six countries in the middle east including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman and Bahrain.

Narayan said that a delegation from the GCC countries will visit the State in November to sign several MoUs proposing investments.

Narayan further said, "Bengaluru Design District will be a global outsourcing destination for various design domains. It will be a creatively stimulating environment that will keep creators, makers, and designers in one place. It will benefit Corporates design centers, Media and Advertising Companies, Product / Service Design companies, Design Startups, Digital design companies among others."

The Design District project is proposed by ISDC (International Skill Development Corporation) and Jain university in association with the World Design Council, UK.
