The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted widespread rainfall in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa till September 2.

In its weather forecast for the week, IMD predicted heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours in Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

This rainfall spell is likely to be witnessed West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa during August 30-September 1; over Gujarat state during August 30-September 2; over Marathwada during August 30-31; over East Rajasthan during August 31-September 1.

IMD said that Konkan region and Goa may get very heavy falls on Tuesday and Wednesday.

IMD officials said that the monsoon has become active once again in Madhya Pradesh. “A low-pressure area continues to remain in the Bay of Bengal causing rainfall in many areas of the state. The trough line of the monsoon is also passing through Gwalior, Rewa, and Satna. These two conditions have advanced the monsoon-related activities in the state,” an official was quoted in a News18 report.

Northeast India too is expected to witness fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls during next 24 hours and reduction thereafter. Rainfall is likely to enhance further from September 1 with isolated heavy falls over these areas.

"Scattered rainfall activity very likely over Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains of Northwest India during next 4-5 days. Isolated heavy falls also very likely over Uttarakhand on 30th August, 2021," it said.

The weather department on Sunday issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand. The state witnessed incessant rainfall last week, triggering landslides and waterlogging in parts of Dehradun.
