In a horrifying incident, a student of class 3 set himself on fire after his teacher scolded him for not studying properly. The incident happened in Wanaparthy district of Telangana on Thursday.

The student was studying in a government primary school in Serlipally under Srirangapur mandal. Kothakota Circle Inspector Somnarayan Singh said, "After going home, the boy doused himself in kerosene and set himself on fire. The boy was rushed to a local hospital by his family member. Subsequently, he was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad, as he has suffered 70 per cent burns in the incident."

Meanwhile, the police has filed a case and is verifying the matter. The officer said, "The teacher has not been questioned so far as he didn’t attend the school today." City-based NGO Balala Hakkula Sangham’s honorary president Achyuta Rao, however, accused the teacher of beating the student brutally. He said that the student resorted to the extreme step because he could not bear the humiliation in front of his classmates.
