Gang waylays truck robs cigarettes worth Rs 4 crore

Like a scene straight out of a movie, robbers on Sunday, August 20, entered into a truck and fled with cigarettes worth Rs 4.11 crores in Hyderabad.

About 20 miscreants waylaid the truck on Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway, beat the driver and stole the whole stock. The truck (KA 2 AD 1220), was transporting cigarettes from Musheerabad to Tirupati.

The incident was reported under Hayathnagar police station of Rachakonda Commissionerate of the city in the morning where the truck driver Akhilesh Kumar Yadav, a native of Nawada in Bihar was robbed by a gang. Eight people boarded his truck's cabin, tied his hands and legs, and threatened to kill him. Later, they dumped him and drove away the truck with the loaded cigarettes.

The miscreants, who came in two Tata Sumo vehicles, moved the load into another container on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Police is examining the CCTV footage along the route. “The video is blurry and we are enhancing it to get information about the heist,” said Inspector J. Narender Goud of the Hayathnagar police. Police suspect it to be the work of an inter-state gang.
