Abandoned new born girl mauled by dogs in Hyderabad

A 3-day-old girl, presumably abandoned by her parents just after her birth, was found dead in Maharajpet, Shankarpally on Saturday morning. Her head was found mauled by stray dogs. According to a report by the Times of India, Shankarpally police said that the body of the girl was found in a decomposed state in bushes near the Phirangi nala.

Speaking to media, the police said, "The body was found in a secluded place. It was locals who found the girl's body and alerted the village revenue officer (VRO), who in turn informed the police about the same. The body of the newborn was sent to post-mortem examination (PME)."

The body has been sent for postmortem to identify whether the girl was killed before being abandoned or was she left to die there. Post mortem reports will also indicate whether she had a natural death. Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Section 318 (Concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of the Indian Penal Code.

Incidentally, there has been a sharp rise in the number of abandoned baby girls in the city and other parts of the country. In January this year, two newborn baby girls were abandoned by their parents in two different incidents in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. One of the two was, in fact, mauled by stray dogs. Her body was found inside the campus of state-run Maharaja Yeshwantrao (MY) hospital. In a similar incident, the body of a newborn baby girl was found lying in a garbage bin near the office of electricity department.
