Will start protest again in July in Delhi says farmers union leader Ayyakannu

On Friday, in Gandhi Peace Center, New Delhi, farmers from different states gathered together to discuss on various issues that are prevailing in recent times. P Ayyakannu and his team represented the Tamil Nadu state farmers.

“The protest will start again on the first week of July in Jantar Mantar, Delhi, based on demands such as to cancel the debts of the farmers and to determine a profitable price for the agricultural products,” Ayyakannu said to reporters.

“In order to spread awareness on the threat posed by the unprecedented drought we held a strike with skulls in Jantar Mantar for 41 long days. In continuation of this, ten teams were formed who would travel around India to enlighten people about the need for this strike,” he further added.

In recent past, protesting farmers were shot dead in Madhya Pradesh. In order to pay homage for those deceased, the awareness campaign will begin from Mandsaur. During this journey around India, the farmer’s union would manifest their demands to fix profitable market price for agricultural products, to cancel the debts of farmers and to grant a monthly pension for the senior farmers.

“We were deprived of justice for the struggle during the protest in Jantar Mantar so we have planned to pursue the strike again on July 6, 2017,” said Ayyakannu.

He pleaded with the government to withdraw the case on loan waiver and to issue the amount pending on the sugar cane production.
