In a horrifying incident in Vellore, a 14-year-old school boy was set ablaze by two unidentified men when he was on his way to school. A student of Class IX, Govindan, son of Murugan and resident of Jonthiranpalli village, was heading to his private matriculation school in Vengalapuram when he was intervened by these two men.

They then escorted him to a nearby mangrove where they poured petrol over him and set him on fire. The boy, however, managed to put out the fire by rolling on the ground. Meanwhile, villagers too came to help him after hearing him cry. They then rushed him to the Government Hospital of Tirupattur. From there, he was referred to Government Vellore Medical College Hospital. 

According to the New Indian Express, hospital authorities said that the boy had incurred 50% burn injuries. According to police, the incident took place around 8:20 am. They have registered a case and have begun investigations, according to a report by the Times of India.
