Tamil Nadu MK Stalin accuses health minister of accepting bribe calls him a murderer

DMK president and main opposition leader MK Stalin has pointed fingers at Health Minister Vijayabaskar claiming him to have taken bribe to sell life-threatening guthka.

The income tax department has reported to the chief secretary that the minister Vijayabhaskar and few police men have been bribed by the tobacco selling companies.

The DMK party has demanded that the issue should be discussed in the assembly, but the Speaker told that he would not debate over an issue based on what they say in television and newspapers. Following this, the DMK has walked out of the Assembly.

On meeting the reporters Stalin said, “The income tax officers have seized a diary and an account book with the details on bribing. The health minister stands first in the list. DGB Rajendran and George (Fire Services Director) are also mentioned in the list. They were bribed with an amount of Rs. 40 crore.”

He further added, “On behalf of the Income Tax Department, a letter has been sent to the Chief Secretary to take action on this. Tamil Nadu government has not taken any action in these 10 months. This has been reported in the newspapers but the minister’s name was not mentioned. It was only last night the television channels have mentioned his name, including him in the issue. During the RK Nagar by-election raid, few important documents were seized, even then no action was taken against them.”

“On behalf of the gutkha companies an amount of Rs.15 lakhs and Rs.14 lakhs were given to the police commissioner during Diwali and Christmas respectively. George was the commissioner at that time. Even after giving the adjournment resolution in the Assembly, the Speaker did not allow us to discuss on the same. The health minister has betrayed by compromising people’s health. As a health minister he has to save the lives of the people but he has acted no less than an accused murderer,” he then concluded.
