According to a report by Times of India, Ramamoorthy, 31, of M Vellaiapuram near Thiruchuzhi in Virudhunagar district, a goatherd, was staying with his sister Kalaiselvi. She had decided marry off her daughter Renukadevi, 21, a commerce graduate, to her brother.

However, Ramamoorthy had a bizarre desire. Ramamoorthy as he wanted to marry two women, that too at the same time. Strangely, his sister's family agreed and it was decided that Ramamoorthy could also marry Gayathiri, 20, the daughter of Amudhavalli, another of his sisters.

The family also sent out invitation cards proudly announcing that Ramamoorthy will be marrying two women on September 4. The wedding was supposed to take place at the bridegroom's home in Vellaiapuram.

This bizarre invitation soon went viral on social media and was circulated in many WhatsApp groups.

The invitation also reached Virudhunagar district social welfare officer P Rajam. The officer immediately swung into action and summoned the parents of the two women.

The parents explained to the officer that they had taken the decision as they desperately wanted to marry off their daughters. They said that they had consulted an astrologer who had said Ramamoorthy would have two wives.

However, Gayathiri, one of the girls set to marry Ramamoorthy, did not agree and said it would amount to bigamy and it could put Ramamoorthy behind bars. After that it was decided that only Renukadevi would be married to him.
