Stalin questions about AIIMS location TN minister gives an evasive answer

When asked where AIIMS would be set up in Tamil Nadu, the Health Minister C Vijayabaskar refused to give direct response to the opposition leader Stalin. The health minister said that every state demands AIIMS in their respective areas.

Discussion after the Question Hour:

Opposition leader Stalin: The public, MLAs and the political parties are staging a protest demanding the set up of AIIMS in Tamil Nadu.
There has been a long run protest in the city Tanjore as well. When asked about this, the health minister said that the central government would answer on this but on the contrary, the central government has said that the TN government would decide on this.

I would like to know if the central government’s statement was brought to the notice of the state government. Has the government taken a decision on this? In which state the AIIMS is going to be set up?

Minister Vijayabaskar: It was Jayalalitha who had requested the set up of AIIMS in Tamil Nadu. Following which, on 19 July 2014, the central government approved the statement by mentioning the prerequisite of 250 acres of land for the set up. In 19 days it was replied that we have sufficient land for the construction.

Immediately after 10 days, we chose the places that include, Chengalpattu,Perundurai, Madurai, Pudukkottai and Tanjore. The list was sent to the AIIMS team.

In 2015, the central government announced the set up of AIIMS in Tamil Nadu. In the same year a team representing the central government had visited those cities and had submitted a report on the possibilities. It is quite understandable that every state would naturally desire the set up AIIMS, as it is going to be constructed on a budget of rupees 1500 crore.

Recently, we have received a letter enquiring certain details on the land. We have replied to them with sufficient details after discussing with the Collectors of each city.  We would definitely bring AIIMS to Tamil Nadu
