Tamil Nadu: Smart classrooms to be set up in 3,000 Elementary and Middle schools

  • Each of the 3,000 schools will get one smart room.
  • They will also have advanced computer labs.
  • The Tamil Nadu government plans to spend Rs 20 lakh on each of the schools.
Smart classrooms to be set up in 3000 Elementary and Middle schools

Chief Minister, E.Palaniswami has announced today that the government would set up Smart Classrooms in 3,000 Elementary and Middle schools. Each school would get one smart room. On Monday, under the Assembly rule 110, the need for highly equipped computer labs in schools for the students to compete with the technologically advanced world, was discussed.

The discussion was then concluded with the announcement that both High schools and higher secondary schools would be provided with advanced computer labs. 

About 3,090 Higher Secondary schools would get 10 computers each and 2,939 High schools would get 20 computers each. Along with these computers, computer-related gadgets would also be provided. An amount of Rs.437.78 crore was estimated to incur for the government.

For each school, an amount of 20 lakhs would be spent. The education office building in Nungambakkam has become old and as the government has decided to include various departments for the new projects, it is likely to build a new building at the cost of Rs.33 crore. It will be named as ‘MGR centenary building’. 

It was also said an amount of 39 crore would be spent on enhancing the infrastructure of High school and Higher Secondary schools.
