PIL filed against Dinakaran as RK Nagar candidate

T T V Dinakaran, the AIADMK Deputy General Secretary and the nephew of V K Sasikala, last week nominated as the party's candidate for the RK Nagar bypoll scheduled for April 12.

Now AIADMK leader Joseph has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Madras High Court asking it to direct the Election Commission to reject TTV Dinakaran’s nomination as candidate for RK Nagar by-polls.

The rejection should be granted, the PIL applicants say, on the grounds that Dinakaran had been convicted in the FERA (Foreign Exchange Regulation Act) case, decision over  which was still pending

Dinakaran, who was expelled from the AIADMK in 2011, was re-inducted into the party last month by Sasikala after he expressed regret for his alleged anti-party activities.

But this election is important for the party as the results will prove who gets to carry forward Jayalailithaa’s legacy. Already there is infighting within the AIADMK over who contests under the party’s two-leaf symbol, on the other hand, O Panneerselvam and group refuse to recognise the party under Sasikala’s umbrella and thirdly, Deepa Jayakumar is in the wings waiting to gain RK Nagar and then there is the DMK watching for all this to fall apart.
