'Install CCTV cameras, be vigilant' Chennai police tells school authorities

In a move to improve security in schools, Chennai City Police have advised schools to install Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras on their premises.

The Chennai Police Commissioner has asked all schools to install CCTV cameras, especially at entrances. This was conveyed in a meeting held with representatives of schools on Tuesday, June 6.

Chennai Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan has also given other guidelines to schools before they open on Wednesday, June 7.

According to The Hindu, a senior official of the city police said that school authorities had been instructed to appoint drivers and helpers after taking a conduct certificate from the police department. 

Schools are to collect details of private vehicle owners and drivers who transport the students and also receive contact details from the local police station.

At the meeting, the police also asked the school authorities to be vigilant about hawkers and other sellers around the campus.
