DMKs MK Stalin writes to PM Modi on river-linking project

DMK leader MK Stalin has written a letter to the Prime Minister Modi requesting him to implement the river linking project in Tamil Nadu. In his letter Stalin said,“It was DMK that first initiated the river linking project. I would like to list down the importance of this project, for your kind perusal. It is due to the issues in linking the rivers between the states, Tamil Nadu is facing the worst drought-like situation. The struggles of the farmers cannot be explained in words.  

Often the monsoons has failed and the states have been struggling to get water from the neighboring states. These situations have thoroughly affected their livelihood. Hundreds of farmers are committing suicide for this reason. We have always approached the other states with the spirit of brotherhood and humbleness, but it is so unfortunate that the neighboring states have been violating the treaties so easily. 

Linking the rivers is the only long-term solution to save agriculture and farmers. I would like to remind you of the statement of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. In 2002, he said, "Our nation has been witnessing both drought and flood on the same year, it is high time to set up a water management board”.

Stalin further said, "On June 16, a special team was set up under your leadership and the team has held 8 meetings so far. It is very consoling to know that the process is being discussed. River linking project is a National project that has to be implemented for the benefit of the Nation. Not only TN farmers are going to be benefited by this, but also the farmers all over in India. It not only fulfills the water need, but it would also stop the dispute between the states. It would strengthen the National Integrity. It would also improve the Nation’s economy and hence I request the Prime Minister to implement the project as soon as possible."
