Chennai boys college dream crushed after examiner enters wrong marks

Class XII for Chennai’s boys and girls is a life changing year. Students strive to get centum and aim to get into the top colleges. But what happens when students do score centum but aren’t eligible for any of the best colleges? This is the reality of one Chennai student, S Sarathkumar.

The class XII student, who just passed out of PAK Palanisamy School, Old Washermenpet, scored 200/200 in his accountancy paper but due to a error in the calculation, he was given only 140/200. Now, his dream of attending the city’s best colleges is at stake.

“Top colleges in the city, including Loyola, Vivekananda and Jain College, seek a cut-off of 774 out of 800 marks. If not for this error, I would have scored 789 [out of 800],” The New Indian Express quoted him as saying.

Sarathkumar’s total now stands at 729/800. The Chennai lad is now frequenting government offices to find out if he can apply afresh to colleges. However, the last date for submitting applications was on May 30.

The student was first confused when he saw his accountancy score. He then approached the government examination directorate and obtained a photocopy of his answer script. It was then that he realised the examiner made an error in writing the correct marks.

The report claimed that S Bharathi, who evaluated his answer sheet wrongly awarded him 140/200 instead of giving him centum. Sarathkumar will get a new marks sheet. However, he is worried that it might be too late for him.
