AIADMK all set to join NDA to get ministerial berths

The AIADMK is all set to join NDA soon, said a senior BJP leader. AIADMK will join the Modi government at the centre and will also get ministerial berths, the leader added.

“The AIADMK will certainly join the NDA. It is only a matter of time. And when it joins the NDA, then it is natural that it will also join the government,” the leader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said to PTI.

BJP has shown tremendous interest in recent times towards AIADMK with several leaders claiming that BJP had a major role to play in the merging of the two warring factions.

15 leaders from AIADMK joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi in the presence of its president Amit Shah on Saturday, August 26.

The BJP leader, however, played down the rebellion by a group of AIADMK MLAs, who owe allegiance to TTV Dhinakaran, against Chief Minister K Palaniswami, claiming that it was more an internal matter of the regional party and not a threat to the state government.

The unrest started when the newly merged AIADMk decided to remove Sasikala from the post of party general secretary. About 20 MLAs are reportedly supporting Dinakaran.

While there is speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon make changes in his ministry, party sources indicated a Cabinet reshuffle was due.

The AIADMK, which has 37 and 13 members in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha respectively, has often lent its support to the government on key issues in Parliament. Its members also voted for the NDA’s presidential and vice presidential candidates in the recent elections.  O Panneerselvam had also met Vankaiah Naidu and had pictures clicked with him after Venkaiah Naidu was sworn in as the Vice-President of India.

Representatives of the JD(U), which is in power in Bihar and joined the NDA recently, are also likely to join the government.
