2Point0 teaser, starring Rajinikanth, leaked after Kaala's: deliberate move to create hype?

Just two days after the leak of Kaala's teaser, Superstar Rajinikanth's forthcoming film 2Point0's teaser leaked to make headlines on March 4. This teaser of Director Shankar's magnum opus was allegedly aired during a special screening held for the VIPs. Thus, many questions emerged about how and why the leak occurred.  Media reports suggest that the teaser was screened at the birthday party of Lyca Production’s chief K Subaskaran. 

While many including Rajinikanth's daughter, Soundarya Rajinikanth, have taken to Twitter to condemn this claiming that the hard work of the team goes in vain, many others claimed that this could be a deliberate act to create the much-needed hype. Director Shankar had once said (during the release of his film 'I') that if a teaser is leaked, it's publicity if not, it's secrecy.

During the release of Mollywood superstar Mammootty's film 'The Great Father' last year, a clip of an emotional scene from it was reportedly leaked. It was alleged that the producer was behind this to deliberately use it as a promotional stunt.

While some leaks might be dampening as it can lead to an impression being formed among the audience much in advance - either for the better or the worse, and few leakages can perhaps lead to a rise in expectations. All said and done, it does gather attention.

Is this why there are rising incidents of leaks of various films of late? These leakages have gained prominence ever since Bollywood movie Udta Punjab leaked online in 2016.
