Tokyo Olympics: Rani Rampal condemns casteist slurs against Vandana Katariya's family
India female hockey player Vandana Katariya's family was subject to casteist slurs as India lost its bronze medal playoff at the Tokyo Olympics. Meanwhile, Rani Rampal has condemned the act as shameful.
India female hockey player Vandana Katariya has been in the news recently following India's fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics. It has been reported that her family has been subjected to casteist slurs in Haridwar.
As per reports, some people in her family's neighbourhood celebrated India's loss and hurled casteist abuse against her family, stating that India lost because of Dalit players on the side. Meanwhile, fellow Indian player Rani Rampal has condemned the act, saying that it is nothing but a shameful act.
In a virtual press conference, Rani said that it was indeed bad what happened with the family of Vandana. She said that her team has worked above all the religious and castist hate and worked hard to represent the country. Therefore, all these discriminations should be stopped.

Rani further added that everyone in the team comes from different parts of the nation with other religions. But together, they are all playing for the country. So, she feels that it is shameful to involve in such behaviour and learn from the people who have showered love despite their defeat.
Rani also felt that India needs to unite for it to be a prosperous hockey nation. She has urged people not to involve in such biased practices and learn to respect all communities, besides ensuring that such discrimination mistakes are not repeated again.
