Neymar is a Brazilian striker and a great playmaker who has been playing for Paris Saint-Germain since 2017. He remains the most expensive player in football transfer history, moving to PSG from Barcelona for a whopping €222 million.
Prolific Brazilian striker and playmaker Neymar has extended his current contract at Paris Saint-Germain to 2025, the club declared. Neymar, who joined the club in 2017 for a whopping €222 million from Barcelona as the most expensive player transfer in football history, would continue his dominance in the French capital for four more seasons hereon.
Neymar has had a decent stint in Paris, having scored 85 goals in 112 games. As for the honours, he has won nine titles at the club, including three Ligue 1 titles, besides being the UEFA Champions League runner-up last season.
“I’m really pleased to continue my adventure at Paris Saint-Germain. I’m very happy in Paris and proud to be part of this squad, to work with these players, a great coach and to be part of the history of this club. These are things that make me believe even more in this great project. I have grown as a person here, as a human being and as a player, too. So, I am very happy to extend my contract and I hope to win many more trophies here,” he said in a statement from PSG.
PSG chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, too, was elated with the Brazilian deciding to extend his services to the club for four more seasons. “The core of our ambitious project to grow PSG is the heart, talent and dedication of our players. I am proud that Neymar Jr has reaffirmed his long-term commitment to the PSG family through to 2025 and will continue to delight fans. We are very happy to see him continue as part of our project and to be alongside us for many years to come,” he reckoned.
Neymar’s contract extension in the French capital comes as a surprise to few fans. He was constantly linked to an exit and rumoured to be going back to his former club Barcelona to reunite with his old Barca teammate Lionel Messi. However, since the dust is now settled with his contract extension in Paris, fans expect PSG to go all out for Messi, whose future is uncertain at Camp Nou and has been rumoured for an exit at the end of the season whilst being linked to PSG or Manchester City.
