IPL 2018: Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee help Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by 14 runs
Royal Challengers Bangalore pacers blew away the Mumbai Indians' top order before shining in the death overs to set up a much-needed 14-run win
Royal Challengers Bangalore pacers blew away the Mumbai Indians' top order before shining in the death overs to set up a much-needed 14-run win, which kept them alive in the IPL Play-offs race.
Captain Virat Kohli (32) and Brendon McCullum (37) added 60 quick runs in the middle overs to help RCB recover from a slow start and Colin de Grandhomme (23 from 10) hit three sixes in the last over, bowled by fellow New Zealander Mitchell McClenaghan, to provide a flourishing finish to the RCB innings.
Opener Manan Vohra (45) played a useful knock at the top.
But it was the bowlers who rose to the occasion and saved RCB from falling out of the contention for the paly-offs.
Southee and Umesh bowled brilliantly at the top and Chahal kept the things quite in the middle. Ishan Kishan and Mumbai skipper Rohit fell for golden ducks. Umesh Yadav scalped both Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in successive balls.
Hardik and Krunal- the Pandya brothers- brought stability back to Mumbai and put on a 50-run stand. However, Mohammad Siraj sent Krunal back to end his 56-run partnership with Hardik. For a change, Siraj bowled well and did not lose his composure in the penultimate over.
The final nail on Mumbai Indians’ coffin was struck by Tim Southee who dismissed Hardik in the first ball of the final over. It was a breeze for Southee after that and he ensure Bangalore won by 14 runs.
