The 20-year-old woman was a resident of Sonepat district. Her body was found from the tracks by locals, who informed the cops.

She played as a forward for the Indian women’s hockey team. She had also represented India in the Asian Games. She was to leave for Bengaluru for a training camp next week.

Ranveer Singh, SHO, GRP Rewari said that the driver of the Chandigarh-Jaipur Intercity Express tried to pull the chain, but the girl came in front of the train, which was crossing the Jhajjar Road overbridge.

Jyoti had left home on Wednesday telling her parents that she was going to the Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, to get the spelling of her name corrected in her certificate.

Jyoti had reportedly spoken to her family around 7 pm, to inform them that she would return home late, as her bus had stopped. When her mother called her later at night, a railway police official picked up the phone to inform her of her daughter’s death.

However, Jyoti’s family refuses to believe that she could commit suicide.

The Times of India reported that Jyoti had attended a three-month-long national coaching camp at Himachal Pradesh's Shilaroo in June ahead of last month's World Hockey League Semifinals in Johannesburg, and was due to join another camp later in August.
