Force India racer creates history in Formula 3

Jehan Daruvala of Sahara Force India Academy won his first Formula 3 race in the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship. He created history by becoming the first Indian to win this race.

Starting his race in the second place, Daruvala cruised hard to overtake the leader of the pole Maximilian Günther. The Mumbai lad did not look back after this and won the race with a margin of 0.4 seconds.

By winning this race, Daruvala became the second Indian driver to win the Formula 3 race. Narain Karthikeyan is the first Indian who had bagged two victories in British F3 Championships in 1999.

FIA Formula 3 is the junior racing Championship. Racers like Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have taken part in this race before they could enter the Formula 1 racing.

“It feels brilliant to get my first F3 win. I have been quick all weekend & it finally came together this race. I knew the start was crucial, so I focused a lot on that. Once I had Max at the starting of the race, I just had to ensure that I made no mistakes. The pressure was immense throughout the race, but I was enjoying myself,” said Daruvala.

The 18-year-old Daruvala was selected to be part of the F1 team’s young driver academy in 2012. Since then he has moulded his talent under the team by Vijay Mallya.

The race in which he has created history is the third race. Daruvala finished the first race in the sixth position and second race in fourth. The next race will be in Belgium on July 29.
