Cricket Australia is monitoring India-Pakistan tensions amid missile exchanges. With over 20 Aussies in IPL & PSL, concerns rose after a PSL match was cancelled due to a drone scare; games moved to UAE. BCCI awaits govt directive on IPL's fate.
Amid the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, Cricket Australia is keeping a close tab on the situation in both the countries, given that over 20 Australian players and coaches are currently involved in the ongoing seasons of the Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League.

On Thursday, the IPL 2025 clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala in middle of the former’s team innings amid the air raid alerts in the neighbouring regions like Pathankot and Jammu after Pakistan launched 8 missiles into India, targeting regions in f Poonch, Jaisalmer, Satwari, Samba, RS Pura and Arnia. However, Indian defence forces thwarted countermeasures, intercepting most of the incoming missiles from Pakistan ensuring minimal damage and no casualties.
The Pakistan Super League match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings was cancelled after the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was hit by a drone just a few hours before the clash. Due to growing security concerns, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to shift the remaining matches of the tournament to UAE.
Cricket Australia keeps eye on India-Pakistan situation
Amid the growing concerns about Australian players involved in IPL and PSL, Cricket Australia is closely monitoring the situation in India and Pakistan while maintaining their communication with the players in the region.
"We continue to closely monitor the situation in Pakistan and India, including obtaining regular advice and updates from the Australian Government, the PCB, BCCI and local government authorities.” CA said in a statement.
“And maintaining communication with our players and support staff currently in the region," the CA added.
Earlier, The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Australian players have expressed their willingness to leave India as soon as possible, concerning the safety and security of the players. However, Cricket Australia has not yet issued any formal directive for player withdrawals, instead opting to assess the situation in India and Pakistan in consultation with relevant authorities and franchise management.
In the IPL 2025, the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head and coaches Ricky Ponting, Brad Haddin, and Mitchell Langer are involved in their duties for the respective franchises, while the likes of former batter David Warner, pacers Ben Dwarshuis, Riley Meredith and Sean Abbott are competing in the PSL.
BCCI awaits government directives for continuation of IPL 2025
Given the current situation between India and Pakistan after successful Operation Sindoor, there are doubts whether the remaining matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League will continue. However, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal stated that the BCCI has yet to receive a directive from the government.
“We are reviewing the situation right now,” Dhumal told PTI when asked whether the league will continue amid India-Pakistan conflict.
“It's an evolving situation. We haven't received any directive from the government. Decisions will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind,” he added.
The match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take place today (May 9) as per the schedule until further notice from the government or the BCCI regarding potential changes to the IPL 2025 itinerary.
