BCCI CEO leaves to Jamaica

BCCI CEO Rahul Johri left for Jamaica on Wednesday to meet the Indian team during their on-going series in West Indies.

Ahead of coach selection which is due in 9 days, BCCI has decided not to take any chance for creating another controversial rift in the team. Johri is learnt to have left for Jamaica by Wednesday evening.

Johri will be meeting Virat Kohli and other team members to get inputs from the players as a unit for appointing the new coach.

“Yes, Rahul has left for Jamaica with permission of the Committee of Administrators (COA). He has sent with the task of getting feedback from the captain and the team. The team’s feedback will then be passed to the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to take all parameters into account,” a BCCI official said to PTI.

Around one week back, Kohli had stated that he would share his view if the BCCI asks.

"From a personal point of view, I can't pinpoint anything or give details. We as a team, contrary to a lot of perceptions, only voice our opinions when asked by the BCCI for suggestions. So that is something we have always gone through as a process, and that's something we respect as a team," said Kohli.

However, this move by BCCI for sending Johri to Jamaica is seemingly disrespecting the CAC members Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.

On a lighter note, the BCCI source said Venkatesh Prasad is not one among the applicants.

"Venkatesh Prasad's CV is not there among those who have applied for the coach's post. He is working as the chairman of selectors with the junior team. We don't know who spread the news. Venky on his part never confirmed that he has applied for the job," said the source.

The aspirants for the post of head coach includes Dodda Ganesh, LalChand Rajput, Phil Simmons,  Ravi Shastri, Richard Pybus, Tom Moody, and Virender Sehwag.

The interview for the head coach is scheduled on July 10 by CAC.
