With SC verdict looming Sasikalas Plan B A puppet CM

VK Sasikala was accused in a disproportionate assets case and the Supreme Court was supposed to announce the verdict on Monday. But looking at the current scenario, it is unlikely that the Apex Court is going to come up with a verdict on this case on Monday. Therefore Sasikala’s wait of swearing in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is likely to get prolonged.

The Supreme Court’s cause list does not mention the case for Monday. One of the judges from the bench comprising Justice P C Ghose and Justice Amitava Roy is currently on leave as he has taken an extra day off to write Sasikala case order.

It is because of this impending verdict that Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao has been reluctant to swear Sasikala in as the CM of the state. If the judgement is passed against Sasikala, then she will be barred from contesting elections and coming into power.

In that case, Sasikala would want a puppet Chief Minister even if AIADMK manages to get the support of majority of the MLA’s. In that way she can be on top of things as well. But it is unlikely to be that easy as one may think.

However, Supreme Court’s developments regarding this case are being closely monitored by the Central government as well. It seems that the Centre does not want Vidyasagar Rao to assess claims of the O Panneerselvam and Sasikala camps. It may also happen that the Centre would want the governor to allow the claims of majority to be settled on the assembly floor.
