Will unusual Apoorva revive 'Crazy Star' Ravichandran?

Though a 61-year old man romancing a 19-year-old girl is not a new concept in Hollywood and Bollywood, it was never attempted in Karnataka's Sandalwood.

Ravichandran's Premaloka, opposite Juhi Chawla in 1987, drove audiences wild. Perhaps in hopes of repeating that performance, Ravichandran has claimed that Apoorva will break records set by Premaloka. Ravichandran has even written 11 songs for the movie, in total some 40 minutes of music.

Another interesting facet of the film is that for the most part, it has been shot inside the lift in Ravichandran’s home. The lift was renovated according to the need of the movie. Popular actors Sudeep and Ravi Shankar have significant roles, but only their voices can be heard in the film.

Kannada audiences are known to be slow in accepting new trends. It has taken many years for alternative movies to make their presence felt in Sandalwood. Though Apoorva seems to have commercial appeal - via songs and of course Ravichandran himself - the question is, will the plot drive people to the theatres.

The movie releases on May 27.
