Palanisamy’s closeness to the Mannargudi family is told to be the main reason for AIADMK members and people rejecting him as their Chief Minister. As now Sasikala’s nephew from Mannargudi has been given the charge of AIADMK party and many people have expressed their disappointment over this development.

Speaking to Times of India, former AIADMK MLA SK Selvam said that Palanisamy becoming the Chief Minister was the joke of 2017.

Though Jayalalithaa belonged to the Iyengar community, the people of Thevar community has supported her because of her policies including job reservation for the backward classes. Thevars have been the backbone of the AIADMK party for decades. When Sasikala wanted to be the CM, she was also supported as he belonged to the Thevar community.

But when Sasikala chose to appoint Edappadi Palanisamy, who belongs to the Gounder community, most Thevars supporting the party so far were disappointed.

On the other hand, Panneerselvam has ‘Amma policies’ to boast of, and he is from Thevar community. Thus there is good support for Panneerselvam than Palanisamy.

Thus now with the inclusion of Mannargudi family members –TTV Dinakaran and others into the party, the people are also suspecting that Sasikala wants to rule the state from the jail. Especially those who have seen how Mannargudi has kept every business under their control, do not want them to rule Tamil Nadu.

Though Palanisamy can force the MLAs to vote for him during the floor test; it will be difficult to win people’s, heart.
