Earlier, the Assamese worker had claimed that he was familiar with Jisha's mother and had reportedly confessed that he killed the Dalit law student to avenge an insulting comment from her.

Jisha, a Dalit law student of Perumbavoor, was found raped and murdered at her home on 28 April this year. The brutal murder triggered spontaneous protests across the state. The murder kicked off a heated debate on the safety of women in the state and was a major poll question in the recent Assembly elections.
