The Dahi Handi event was organised on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami at Belthangadi in Mangaluru, where the tragic incident occurred.
Poonjalakatter resident Shishir, 22, climbed to the top of a 15-foot human pyramid and tried to break the traditional pot.
As sometimes happens, the handi did not break on the first attempt. Instead, Shishir lost his balance and toppled from the pyramid, first striking a wall and then tumbling to the ground.
The severely injured Shishir was rushed to a nearby hospital. But he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries.
Shishir’s father has filed a case in this regard at Belthangadi police station.
