Rebel VS is back: CPM veteran hits out at govt in Icecream parlour case

VS Achuthanandan against Pinarayi Govt.

Former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan has hit out at the Left government headed by his party for taking a stand against his plea for CBI probe into the Icecream parlour sex trafficking case. He also felt that the stand taken by the government counsel in Supreme Court was 'unfortunate.'

Referring to the Supreme Court judgement on his plea for a CBI investigation into the Icecream parlour case, Achuthanandan said that he approached the court to ensure justice for poor girls exploited by the flesh mafia. The court could have avoided the observation that his plea was a politically motivated, he said.

The Supreme Court made the observation after the Kerala government's counsel objected to Achuthanandan's petition pointing out that he had political motivations behind raking up the case.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) veteran also aired his reservations on the Chief Minister's legal advisor MK Damodaran appearing for Lottery baron Santiago Martin in Kerala High Court on Monday. "It was my case that bundled out Martin from Kerala," VS Achuthanandan recalled. He also said that the tough stand against the lottery baron benefited the LDF in Kerala.

Achuthanandan, who used to stand strong against the official party faction led by Pinarayi Vijayan, has been silent for a few months and avoided direct criticism, giving rise to reports that he fully surrendered to the party. This is his first direct criticism of the Pinarayi Vijayan government since it assumed power last month.
