Two women in IIT Madras commit suicide
FollowTwo women associated with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) were found dead in their rooms on Wednesday in the campus.
According to a report in NDTV, 34-year-old post-doctoral research scholar P Maheshwari and 47-year-old Vijaya Lakshmi committed suicide and investigation are underway to find out the reason of their death.Police officials suspect that 'family issues' could have led them to dead end their lives.
A statement released by IIT Madras read "IIT Madras reports with deep sadness the death of a post-doctoral research scholar in the campus. The scholar's family has been informed. The institute extends its deep felt condolences to the family and the near and dear ones of the scholar for the unfortunate, untimely and devastating loss.” The institution is yet to comment on the death of the professor’s wife.
The management further said that they are “extending full cooperation to civil authorities."
