Two men looted ₹1.40 crore, arrested by Tamil Nadu police

Two persons wanted in connection with swindling ₹1.40 crore meant for remitting ATMs in Coimbatore and Pollachi, were arrested from Himachal Pradesh, the Tamil Nadu police said.

K Sateeshkumar (29) and K Arunkumar (22), both from Udumalpet in Tirupur district, working in a firm in Souripalayam in Tamil Nadu, had been entrusted with remitting cash in ATMs. They had been handed over with the task of filling cash in seven ATMs from Pollachi to Udumalpet after drawing money from various banks.

However, after an audit, a shortage of ₹90 lakh in the ATMs was found from April 2 to May 5. Similarly, a sum of ₹49.6 lakh drawn from different banks was swindled by them, without filling in any of the ATMs.

Based on a complaint by a firm, the police registered a case against the duo, who had been absconding.

The police said that they acted on specific clues that the duo had fled to Himachal Pradesh, following which a team followed them, arrested the accused and brought them to Tamil Nadu on Monday.
