Today Mandya Bundh

The Supreme Court ordered Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of Kaveri water every day to Tamil Nadu, and that doesn't bode well for farmers in Mandya, who will receive less water for their crops as a result. In protest, the farmers of the district blocked the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway and organised protests. Today, Mandya is observing a bandh.

Ziya Ulla Khan, the Deputy Commissioner of Mandya has ordered that all the schools and colleges in the district remain closed. Around 4200 cops are deputed across all the taluks of Mandya.

Yesterday, the Kaveri Hitarakshana Samithi had organised a massive meeting at Gandhi Bhavan in Mandya. The meeting was presided by Madegowda, ex-MP and chairman of the organisation.

In the meeting, the farmers and the members resolved to stage this strike as the state government did not argue satisfactorily in the Supreme Court and the subsequent decree would damage the interests of Karnataka farmers.
