For the second time in a row, Tamil Nadu has managed to top the list of both domestic and foreign tourists visiting the state.

According to a tourism ministry data, in 2015 Tamil Nadu received around 4.68 million foreign tourists and 4.66 million in 2014. Since 2013, the state has turned a hot spot for domestic tourists and so far Tamil Nadu has witnessed an influx of 333.5 million.

Mumbai bagged the second position with 4.41 million foreign tourists visiting the city of dreams. Followed by Uttar Pradesh which managed to attract 3.1 million visitors last year, mainly because of Taj Mahal. Other states which made to the top 10 list were Delhi (2.38 million),West Bengal (1.49 million), Rajasthan (1.48 million), Kerala(0.98 million), Bihar(0.92 million), Karnataka(0.64 million) and Goa(0.54 million). 

The number of domestic tourist visits to states and Union Territories recorded a growth of over 11 per cent at 1,432 million in 2015 as compared to 1,282.8 million in 2014. However, the Foreign tourist visits (FTVs) was 23.3 million last year as compared to 22.3 million in 2014, registering a growth of 4.4 per cent. "During 2015, the number of domestic tourist visits to the states/ UTs was 1432 million as compared to 1282.8 million in 2014 registering a growth of 11.63 per cent," an official release said.
