Three CPM men injured in a blast at secret bomb making unit in Nadapuram

Three CPM men injured in a blast at Nadapuram

Three Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPM) workers sustained serious injuries in an explosion at Nadapuram in Kozhikode on Wednesday night. The police suspect that the blast took place at a suspected country bomb-making den in the locality which is infamous for political violence and murders.

Locals, who rushed to the spot after hearing the thundering noise, saw the men lying blood with their limbs severed in the blast. The injured identified as Vivek, Linesh and Linish were rushed to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The condition of Linish is reported to be critical.

Police Bomb Disposal Squad conducted a search of the blast site and found two steel bombs, some steel utensils and pyrotechnic materials and have cordoned off the area.

Meanwhile, the CPM Kozhikode district secretary P Mohanan chose to distance the party from the incident and said that the party does not support such activities. He also said that blaming the CPM for the incident was part of the election stunt.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) has decided to organise a sit-in for peace and harmony in the area. Nadapuram is a very sensitive area as it had witnessed political clashes between the CPM and the  Muslim League escalated into riotous proportions in the past. The bomb blast, just weeks before elections, has raised apprehensions over the peaceful conduct of the polls.

In a similar incident in 2011, five Muslim League workers had been killed while they were making crude steel bombs in  Nadapuram. Three party workers had sustained injuries in the blast.
