The secret behind Jayalalithaa and MGR break up of 10 years

Jayalalithaa from the beginning of her filmy career was inclined towards MG Ramachandran, a star actor as well as politician (DMK leader). MGR’s closeness to Jayalalithaa had started worrying the DMK leaders, especially RM Veerappan.

In the beginning, MGR’s closeness seemed like a respite from loneliness to Jayalalithaa. But as years passed, he started controlling her completely. He did not allow her to work with other heroes in the movies. He even controlled her finances to the effect that she had to take his permission to use her hard-earned money.

The situation was getting tense and RM Veerappan and some others were trying every trick in their book to make MGR realise that Jayalalithaa was a bad influence on him.

Meanwhile, the political developments too were responsible for changing relationship status of Jayalalithaa and MGR. According to Veerappan, Karunanidhi and MGR were close friends, but differences between them grew as MGR got close to Jaya. The differences between became so serious that in one instance Karunanidhi, who was the Chief Minister threw MGR out of the DMK party.

Another side of the story tells us that when Karunanidhi was not the ultimate in the party, it was MGR who recommended his name for the CM candidature. But slowly MGR’s aura grew to the extent that it came to haunt Karunanidhi. The rivalry between both grew due to the popularity of MGR and not his personal affairs, say, political experts.

When he was thrown out of DMK, MGR floated his party and named it Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Being the founder member, he became busy in his political career, and people close to him including Veerappan saw to it that he did not get closer to Jayalalithaa.

Thus, it was a win-win situation for both Jayalalithaa and MGR as she felt free from restrictions. Jaya started acting with other heroes and continued with her cinema journey whereas MGR got busy in his political career.

Thus preferences grew them apart. But shocking is that they were destined to be together again. Both Jayalalithaa and MGR were not in talking terms from 1971. But after 10 years, when MGR was in the US for treatment, Jayalalithaa too happened to be there as part of an event there. A common friend arranged for a meeting between the both and it goes without saying that they got back together in no time.
