African citizens have become a headache to the Bengaluru Police as many of them are involved in illegal activities. Praveen Sood, Bengaluru Police Commissioner has taken action to catch those who are staying in spite of expiry of their visas.

African citizens who are staying in the city are gradually becoming irritants for Bengaluru. More than 50 cases have been filed against African citizens in the year 2016.

Most of the African citizens are staying in east and south east region of Bengaluru. The murder of Florensa, Uganda’s student turned call girl has once again brought this issue for a deliberation.

Recent police reports say that Florensa tried to rob Ishan, the student of Himachal Pradesh. In the interrogation Ishan has said that he stabbed her in order to protect himself.

Many African citizens come to Bengaluru on Business visa and involve in drug and sex activities. The police are unable to track those who continue to stay even after the expiry of visa. Most of Africans stay in Banaswadi, Soladevanahalli and Hennuru. The local residents say that they become more active as the sun sets.

Sources say that the local law gives special privileges to foreign citizens and they are misusing those privileges for their illegal activities. Besides, the greedy house owners of Bengaluru rent out their houses for five to ten times more than the actual rates. Some owners in the above said areas rent the house on per head basis and tolerate all the trouble they create.

What the police can do?

  • The police can contact the principals of colleges that comes under their police station limits and obtain the attendance, performance and discipline of foreign students.
  • The police can submit the details of irregular and indiscipline students to the embassy of concerned students and probe the whereabouts of them.
  • They should verify the validity of original documents provided by them.
  • The police can obtain the bank details of those who are staying illegally and catch them through the details that they have provided to the bank.
  • The police can prosecute the house owners if their rented houses are being used for illegal activities.
