An additional contingent of 1,00 commandos has been deployed at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport following warnings that terrorists might target the airport. The state police also intensified patrolling outside the airport. The Union Home Ministry had directed the airport authorities to beef up security after intelligence inputs.

The Home Ministry issued the directive to all airports in the country after intelligence agencies warned that terrorists might try to highjack planes. Thiruvananthapuram is considered as one among the most vulnerable airports.

All passengers will be frisked at the airport gate. Besides the security check, all passengers will undergo secondary ladder point examination and hand-held metal detector checking once again.

The passengers are also directed not to take demonetized currencies abroad. They will have to give an affidavit that they do not carry banned currencies. The heightened vigil will continue till 30 January.
