The Election Commission today issued the notification for the May 16 Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu

Now party candidates can start filing of nominations in all the 234 constituencies. Following dates are important for parties keen to contest the polls:

Last date to submit nomination papers: April 29

Last day for withdrawal: May 2

Polling: May 16 (7am to 6pm)

Counting of votes: May 19

About 5.6 crore voters will exercise their franchise. Polling will take place in as many as 65,000 polling booths.

This election is going to be a multi-cornered contest with AIADMK and DMK facing off in the electoral battle with PWF-DMDK-TMC combine and PMK and the BJP-led alliance.

Eminent leaders such AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha, DMK President M Karunanidhi, his son MK Stalin, DMDK leader Vijayakant, PMK’s Anbumani Ramadoss and MDMK’s Vaiko will be contesting this time.
