Suresh Gopi to boost NDA prospects in Kerala

In a bid to better its presence in Kerala, the BJP-led NDA is planning to use the mass appeal of superstar Suresh Gopi MP, who officially joined the saffron party last week.

The BJP leadership is known to have assigned the film star to take a bigger role to cement the ties within the NDA and further its base. Even though Suresh Gopi was at the forefront of the BJP campaign for long, he had not officially joined the party. Just ahead of the Assembly Elections early this year, the Modi government had nominated the Mollywood action hero to the Rajya Sabha (RS).

After his RS entry, Suresh Gopi became a common face in the BJP campaign, and he shared the dais with the national party leadership.

The BJP launched the NDA Kerala with Bharatiya Dharma Jana Sena and a few regional parties ahead of the Assembly polls with big hopes. Though the front fared better in the elections, it couldn't translate the spike in the vote share into tangible results, except the victory of O Rajagopal from Nemom constituency.

There were reports that the BJP president Amit Shah gave a target of winning 15 Lok Sabha seats out of 20 seats in 2019 polls. The BJP will start its unofficial campaign for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in advance and will give charge of 20 LS seats in Kerala to 20 senior leaders.
