Supreme Court orders for Floor Test in Karnataka tomorrow

The Apex court ordered the Floor Test tomorrow (Saturday, May 19 at 4 pm) in order to allow BJP prove its majority on the floor of the house as claimed by the single largest party, while claiming that this will avoid unconstitutional methods of gaining majority.

After Congress- JD(S) coalition filed a petition at the Supreme Court against the Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Vala inviting BJP to form the Government, the supreme court has made a decision as to how it wants to test the house's confidence. 

 

Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri said, "The floor test seems to be the best option." The Centre was represented by Attorney General K K Venugopal while the Congress- JD(S) was represented by Lawyer and senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Sangvi. Congress Leader and lawyer Kapil Sibal was also present at the hearing. 

 

While the Congress has accepted the apex court's decision to hold the Floor Test tomorrow, the BJP Council Mukul Rohatgi requested the test to be held on Monday and said the BJP "needs time", which was rejected by the Court. 

 

The Apex court ordered the Floor Test tomorrow (Saturday, 19th of May at 2 pm) in order to allow BJ{ tp prove its majority on the floor of the house as claimed by the single largest party, while claiming that this will avoid unconstitutional methods of gaining majority.

 

The Supreme court also told the Governor not to nominate any Anglo-Indian MLA until the floor test is over. The top court said that no major policy decisions should be taken by BS Yeddyurappa. The bigger question now is: who will be the Protem Speaker?
