Six Sri Lankan women and a man were caught at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru while they were trying to smuggle in over 2 kg of gold. The smuggled gold was valued at over ₹65.70 lakh.

 

According to a report in The Hindu, the Customs Air Intelligence Unit said that the group had arrived at eight p.m. on Sunday. While one lady had crushed gold bangles and hid it in her hair bun, the rest had concealed gold biscuits in their rectum.

 

A senior customs official said, “They are part of an international gold smuggling racket that operates from Chennai and has links with South Asian countries.”

 

After being interrogated the group further revealed that they were to be taken from Bengaluru to Chennai by a handler, who was waiting for them outside the airport. They were given ₹ 20,000 each for smuggling the gold.
