Speeding BMTC costs 16-year-old her life
Savitha and Santosh from Bilikere village in Mysuru district were in town visiting their relatives. They had come to the city on Saturday to attend a wedding and were put up at their sister’s house in Sunkadakatte.
Â
The siblings were heading to Akkamahadevi Kalyana Mantapa at Rajarajeshwarinagar for the wedding at around 10.30 am on Sunday when their vehicle was mowed down by a BMTC bus.
Â
According to the police, the BMTC bus, which was heading from KR Market towards Doddabasti, kept blaring its horn, and a panicked Santosh lost control as the road was riddled with potholes. Savitha, who had just finished her 10th with a first class was run over by the bus.Â
Â
She died on the spot while her brother suffered major injuries.Â
Â
Santosh later told Bangalore Mirror: "I was unnerved by the honking of the bus behind me. Before I could give way, I hit the cement in a pothole and hit an autorickshaw. Before I realised what happened, the bus had run over Savitha's head."
Â
The police have registered a case and have arrested the BMTC bus driver, Suresh.
