To consolidate its position as the destination for adventure tourism in Karnataka, Mysuru will soon have hot air balloon rides. The city already has skydiving facility and the Tourism Department of the state is also planning to introduce water sports facility here.

The department is also assessing the possibility of establishing a training institute for people who are willing to learn to fly the hot air balloons and to provide balloon pilot licences to these people.

Once this centre is launched, balloon rides will be introduced to tourists to get a wonderful aerial view of the city. The Hindu quoted the Deputy Director of tourism, Janardhana HP as saying that clarity on the proposal for this will be made public soon.

The area that is required for hot air balloon take-off should not have high-tension lines and overhead electrical cables. As per this specification, Nanjangud is perfect for this purpose, added the deputy director. In fact, two-acre land near this location has already been identified for the training centre.

Mysuru already has skydiving facility and the airport is a certified skydiving drop zone. Sky Riders, a private agency, facilitates the jumps and this adventure sport is drawing many to this city.

Also, in 2016 Dasara the district administration introduced a programme called the 'Agasadhinda Mysuru' which gives tourists and residents an opportunity to tour Mysuru in a helicopter.
