Sidelined by the Congress party for over two years now, former Karnataka chief minister SM Krishna has made it clear that he doesn’t want to continue in the party. Currently, the Congress high command is trying to retain the veteran leader in the party.

But sources also said that Krishna wants to be in the active politics and might be eyeing at the Vice President’s post, which will lie vacant after Hamid Ansari’s second term completes in August. It can be noted that Krishna had expressed his willingness to be the Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, but was not supported by the state or the high command.

To add to his disappointment, his supporters so far too joining the side of CM Siddaramaiah and those who continue to support the leader did not get any tickets. Siddaramaiah faced problem due to recent reshuffling of the Cabinet, where a number of ministers (veteran Congress leaders) were asked to step down from their posts.

One of the leaders Srinivas Prasad even quit the Congress party and joined BJP recently. Prasad is also said to be close to SM Krishna.

On the other hand, if SM Krishna expresses his willingness to join BJP, it will be a good development for the BJP, whose image is being tarnished by the infighting in the party. The Recent fight between BJP leaders Yeddyurappa and Eshwarappa has brought a bad name to the party in the state.

A leader like SM Krishna joining BJP will be a welcome move and he can even be projected as the face-saver of the party. Veteran leader will also get sympathy of the people of Karnataka as he is considered as a prominent leader even to this day. With him, Krishna can even bring Vokkaliga votes with him.

Currently, SM Krishna is yet to address the public on his decision. As the high command is in constant touch with the leader, it is unclear what will be his next step. But the speculation on him joining BJP will be considered strong if Congress does not give him a prominent role to play in the party.
