- The new move is amid rumours that the duo might have fled to other states
Kerala police announced ₹1 lakh reward to those who provide credible information on whereabouts of absconding persons in Jishnu Pranoy death case. A top-level meeting of police officers including DGP Loknath Behera decided to constitute a special team to arrest accused.
ADGP (crime) Nitin Agarwal will lead the team which aims to arrest M K Sakthivel and C P Praveen. Sakthivel was the vice-principal of Nehru College of Engineering while Praveen was a faculty.
The ADGP would choose the other members of the special team. The Special Investigation Team, which is probing the case will also come under the ADGP.
The new move is amid rumours that the accused might have fled to other states. DGP Behera has written to police chiefs of other states seeking help in nabbing the accused. SIT have also decided to speed up the probe and the procedure to confiscate the assets of the duo.
Police have also decided to probe into the alleged involvement of outsiders in the incident that led to the assault of Mahija, mother of Jishnu Pranoy, in front of police headquarters on Wednesday.
The preliminary report has ruled out police excess, but the DGP has asked range IG Manoj Abraham to file a report. The meeting decided to probe the role of outsiders after police force came under criticism.
