SC upholds verdict says Karnataka should release water to TN

The Supreme Court had on Tuesday directed Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu and had postponed the hearing of special appeals on water sharing to today.

Despite findings of Cauvery Technical Committee, the Supreme Court has repeated its earlier verdict and has asked Karnataka to release water (2,000 cusecs) per day from October 7 to October 18.

The Court also told the three applicants to file additional written affidavit by October 24.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that he has not received the copy of Supreme Court’s verdict yet.

Reacting to the news, JD(S) State President and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has warned the Congress government of convening meetings of all parties and releasing water to Tamil Nadu. “Water Resources Minister MB Patil has said that Karnataka has no problem releasing water. By making such statements, please do not blame your decision of releasing water again and again on the meeting and try to project it as state's unanimous decision.”
